The church of this "matrix" stands on an important point of the city, a place of intersection of three roads leading to their neighborhoods. The building stands on the site of an existing church dedicated to St. Mary Catholic, already documented in 1310 and it remains only a painting of the Madonna della Porta. Extended several times and seriously damaged in the sixteenth century. It was rebuilt following a donation of Princess Giovanna Ruffo, becoming one of the most beautiful churches and the largest in the province of Reggio. Unfortunately, over time the building suffered significant damage which went to additions to those caused by the disastrous earthquake of 1908. They spent several years before the church was rebuilt, the work was fully completed in 1958.
facade can be seen, the only surviving structures above, the marble columns of the portico, formed by six Ionic columns and the statue of the Immaculate (XVII century).
The Church is divided into three naves, the lower end with two square chapels and more with a polygonal apse. The ceiling has wooden beams. The high altar in polychrome marble inlaid, comes from a Church of the Capuchins Scilla. Behind is a mosaic covering the entire wall with a representation of an Angel enlightened by the Holy Spirit and, below, just see the houses of Scilla. In the nave on the right you can admire a marble sculpture from the school of Bernini, who represents St. Peter the Apostle. Several paintings by artistic merit
